Archival Photos

The church's archives contain some wonderful photographs illustrating the history of the Church.  Few people have ever seen them and that's a shame.  This page is a way to bring them out and put them on view for all to enjoy. Roll your cursor over the picture to locate the forward and back arrows and move through the slide show.  Enjoy!

Circuit riding preachers began preaching in Princeton as early as 1810. Eventually a congregation was formed and by April of 1847 a building was built to house the Princeton Methodist Episcopal congregation. That first building was not on the corner of Nassau Street and Vandeventer, but was the second building on the block, as shown in the photograph below. Dr. Bartine, a physician, had his home and office in the building on the corner.

The first church building was a two story brick building.

It was not on the corner, but the second building on the block.

Here is a view from the front of the building.

Behind the church were stables where horses and carriages were stored.

The interior of the Sanctuary.

Sunday School met in rooms in the basement.

The last services were held in the old building in 1910.

The corner lot was acquired, the house and old building were torn down.

A new building was constructed on both lots in 1910.
