Born in the Caribbean nation state of Trinidad & Tobago, I was raised in the home of a pastor. My father was a member of the teaching faculty of the West Indies School of Theology (WIST), a regional Bible Institute. As a result, I often participated in their weekly chapel services. It was during one of these worship services, at the age of sixteen, that I sensed, and said yes to, God's call to the ministry. As a pastor’s daughter I was always fully involved in the life of the church, particularly in the area of music and worship. While in Trinidad I developed an Applied Music department at WIST and led a touring female vocal ensemble for a few years.
I left Trinidad in 1986 to attend what is now Westminster Choir College of Rider University. I graduated in 1990 with a Bachelor of Music degree as a Church Music major. Years later I enrolled at Palmer Theological Seminary in Wynnewood, PA, from where I graduated with a Master of Divinity degree in May 2010. As an M.Div. student, part of my Field Education requirements were fulfilled at Princeton UMC in the academic year 2008-09. Those ten months marked a distinct turning point in my preparation for ministry. Up until then, I was pretty confident of my teaching abilities and saw myself heading for a Seminary teaching ministry. However, at PUMC I became aware of pastoral gifts that began to bud under the close mentorship of Jana and the nurturing supervision of my site team. In my second internship at Medford UMC these gifts fairly blossomed; I could no longer confine my ministerial identity to the teaching role. My clinical internship at Cooper University Hospital was also quite a definitive experience in affirming my pastoral skills and instincts.
As Pastoral Care Assistant, a half-time position, I will have major responsibility for Pastoral Care, however, all of the Pastoral Staff will share visitation in homes and hospitals. I will be ministering to the needs and concerns of the congregation, regularly visiting members, and coordinating efforts to welcome visitors and friends. I will also participate with the Pastoral Team in coordinating and leading new member classes and serve as part of the Leadership Team with Stephen Ministry. In addition I will serve as part of the weekly preaching and liturgist rotation. In addition to serving here at PUMC, I am also an Adjunct Professor at Palmer Theological Seminary, teaching the Intro to Seminary Writing course, and developing a Worship elective that focuses on Music in Worship.
I do have a wonderful family; however you may see them only occasionally, since they remain active members at Abundant Life Fellowship in Edgewater Park, NJ, while I serve and worship here in Princeton. My remarkable husband, Harran, to whom I have been married for over thirty years, has been a consistent source of strength and support throughout my Christian journey, most of which we traveled together since we were both in our teens. We have one adult son, Jesse, and one teenage daughter, Joanna, both of whom love and serve God wholeheartedly.
I enjoy spending my free time doing informational or recreational reading. I also get enormous pleasure out of either hosting tea parties or enjoying a cup of tea with friends. Plans for the near future include preparation for doctoral study with a concentration in practical theology. I look forward to growing and serving here over the next year. I have a high regard and deep affection for this congregation - people who love God and one another, and who are dedicated to God’s mission in the world.
