Completing Phase 1 of the Natural Church Development Process
PUMC has achieved a great milestone with the closing of the first cycle of our Natural Church Development work, and the “retirement” of the first edition of the Church Health Team. One of the closing actions was the all-church celebration we held after church on April 26, with the large tree symbol prepared by the Youth Group and Sunday School. Photos of this event are found on the Church Health Team Celebration page. The final action occurred last night with the first meeting of the new CHT, hosted by Iona, where the “baton was passed” to the next growth cycle. Attached you’ll find a summary of our first NCD cycle actions and results. Although some changes are incomplete, these accomplishments are significant when you look back from now to when we started. We tried not to overstate them or to be “irrationally exuberant” in this report, but we really are “stoked” about the potential of PUMC to reach a new level in the coming years.
This good news will be followed shortly by even better news. We have received the results of the second Profile Measurement and the new CHT will soon be sending them out to you so you can see the evidence of your efforts, especially during the past two years. Our “grades” showed marked improvements for which you can be proud to note you have played an important part with your support of all the changes we have done, and are continuing to develop.
The first CHT appreciates the unswerving support of the former COM and this Church Council throughout this process. The CHT was initially concerned for the scope of the implied changes of our recommended actions to the Council in late 2007, but your leadership has guided us not only to far-reaching plans and actions, but also to a dramatic expectation of on-going renewal among the people of PUMC. We know we’re not done with changes, yet we feel invigorated to be “on the way” to a better place for the congregation and those people who have not yet joined us to discover our “joyful response to God’s love.”
On behalf of the “old” CHT members, thank you all and we are very grateful for your strong commitments to the challenges we’ve thrown your way.
With Christ’s love to lead us, we will grow in our love for others.
