The new Church Health Team (CHT) is now in the process of diagnosing the results of our recent Natural Church Development (NCD) assessment and will soon be gathering additional input from the congregation. As we consider our new ―"minimum factor," (our lowest rating in the eight NCD categories), Inspiring Worship Service, we want to make sure we all understand exactly what the Inspiring Worship Service category means.
The Inspiring Worship Service is influenced by many things, not the least of which is our own preparation, openness and readiness to be inspired by God. The Natural Church Development process tells us that there are four components that contribute to an inspiring worship service: (1) Personal Transformation in Worship, (2) Visitor-Friendly Church, (3) Anticipation for Worship, and (4) Care for Children and Youth.
As you approach and participate in worship over the next few weeks, consider each of these categories and the degree to which each influences you personally and us communally. Prayerfully consider how you can prepare to let the Holy Spirit work within you and among us – how we can open our-selves to be inspired by God in worship.
For each category, inspiring worship services:
Personal Transformation in Worship. Gives us the sense that we are touched by God during that time. We feel the presence of the Lord touching ourselves and others. We are touched and energized by various aspects of the service -- scripture, the sermon, the music, prayer, fellowship, community, children’s time . . .
Visitor-Friendly Church. Helps people that come to our church connect with God and with people. We are aware of newcomers and visitors and ensure that they feel welcomed, that they quickly encounter a friendly face, that they know where to go and how to get there. We create an environment that encourages people to build relationships with others. Our sermons, format and music draw in seekers of Jesus Christ.
Anticipation for Worship. Is an overflow of one‟s personal worship. We prepare ourselves for worshiping God and understand the value of preparation for worship. We look forward to the worship service. Our Worship ministry, music ministry and staff plan and prepare to make sure worship services run smoothly and are inspirational. We spend personal time in prayer and Bible study in anticipation of the worship service. We link small group activities to the worship service.
Care for Children and Youth. Provides for the care, spiritual growth and participation of our children and youth. We include our children and youth in the worship
