About the ReThink Church/10000 Doors Campaign
Rethink Church/10 Thousand Doors
“What if church wasn’t just a place where people spend an hour on Sundays? What if there wasn’t just one door into the church but 10,000? And what if we began thinking about ‘church’ as a verb instead of a noun?” says the Rev. Larry Hollon, top staff executive of United Methodist Communications. This is the concept behind our denomination's new Rethink Church campaign which was launched in April. The new campaign seeks to expand awareness among Christians about what church is all about, generate new ideas, and encourage global spiritual dialogue.
New and exciting things are happening! A new website called Ten Thousand Doors has been created. Here’s a sampling of the good things you will find there:
- FIND a church near you. Type in a zip code and up comes a link to the local church.
- WATCH short videos on many topics such as literacy, books for homeless kids etc.
- GO/DO - a Google global map with markers for many kinds of ministries around the world. Find a link to a helping hands ministry in Africa or an advocacy group in North America.
- TALK - sign up, post or read messages on topics such as “How can we bring attention to Darfur? or “What wisdom and passion do you credit to your mother?
- LISTEN to feeds on topics such as “The Spirituality of Parenting” or Christian music.
- READ inspirational stories such as the “My Mother’s Cure,” current news, hot topics or opinions expressed by others
- US - find the history, beliefs and facts about being a United Methodist in today's world.
Read, learn and join in the dialogue. Enjoy!
UM Communities
In addition to the Rethink Church/10 Thousand Doors site, you may want to visit www.UMCommunities.org. This site is sponsored by the United Methodist General Board of Global Ministries. "We see UMCommunities as a way to promote networks around issues and concerns in the faith journey," said the Rev. Christopher Heckert, clergy member of the Greater NJ Annual Conference and Associate General Secretary of GBGM. Many will remember Chris who was an active member of our church before moving to northern New Jersey.
