ASP 2008 Review
In 2008, the ASP team went to Wise, Virginia on June 27th and returned on July 5th. 42 young people attended -- the largest group from PUMC ever to participate -- divided up into six groups that worked on various projects from cleaning up yards, landscape planting, roofing and other repairs. They gave a moving presentation on their work at the July 6th worship service.
Throughout the year the youth of the church engage in fundraising activities to help finance the expenses of travel and lodging during the summer. In addition, the Outreach Committee of the church supports the Appalachian Service Project as a part of its budget. This fundraising is especially important as the cost to send each team of 5 youth/2 adults for the week is approximately $4,000!
A great deal of satisfaction comes from this program which helps those in need.
